Parkinson's Digital Volunteering

An opportunity for volunteers to work together and support each other

Join our discussion, ask questions, learn from one another
  • Do you help to provide digital and online services or activities for your Parkinson's community?

  • Do you sometimes find it difficult to choose the best way to provide activities online?

  • Would you be interested in widening the scope of the digital services and support that you provide for your community?

  • Do you have digital expertise, or experiences good or bad, that you could share to help other volunteers?

If you can answer "yes" to any of these, you are already a Parkinson's Digital Volunteer! You might be interested in our new initiative to connect digital volunteers so that they can share their experiences, expertise, concerns and solutions.

OK, I'm in! How do I begin?

We've created a dedicated Digital Volunteering section on the forum of this website. You can take a look at what's there just by clicking the link and browsing around, but we would love you to sign-up as a member so that you can contribute to the discussion and share your expertise.

To sign up simply click Log in or sign up to our forum at the topmost right of any page on this site. Choose Sign up and follow the simple instructions. You'll be asked to provide your email address and a password; your email address is not shown to anyone else, not even other forum members. You'll then receive an acknowledgement email, and as soon as we've approved your registration you will receive a second email. You can then log in to the forum and join the conversation.

Is there more information on how to use the forum?

We think the forum is fairly easy to use. Once logged in, you should be able to browse around, respond with your comments to existing topics, and create new topics of your own.

In the near future we plan to add videos to this page, showing some additional features such as

  • getting email notifications of new postings by "following" a topic

  • adding video or other material to a topic so it's available for everyone to see

  • changing the details of your account profile to choose how your name appears, your profile picture and so on

Meanwhile, if you are unsure of anything or would like a little extra information, feel free to contact Jonathan Bromley by email admin@oxfordparkinsons.org.uk who will try to help.

Why isn't this on Parkinson's UK's website?

Our national charity Parkinson's UK is working on a comprehensive volunteer collaboration platform. However, it's not available yet, and many of us feel that we need this kind of support now - so we have, with the charity's encouragement, set up this provisional solution to help us all with the very specific challenges presented by moving into the online digital age.

We will move all content from our forum on to Parkinson's UK's platform as soon as it is ready for use. Until then, we hope you will join us here so that we can work together to make better use of digital and online opportunities to support people affected by Parkinson's across the UK.
